2009 Upper Peninsula EarthKeeper Tree Project
contributed by Greg Peterson
Michigan: It began on Earth Day with the planting and blessing of the first evergreen tree.
Northern Michigan volunteers planted 12,000 trees in three hours on Sunday May 3, 2009 at thousands of locations, including 100 churches/temples.
The planting involved the area's ten largest faith traditions and includes Native Americans, college students, children and people ages 8 to 80.
Trees were distributed and picked up at local conservation offices and other places. They were packaged with planting instructions by dozens of volunteers in several locations.
EarthKeepers can also provide high definition video by request.
