Indigenous Nations Library Program Explores New Ways to Assist Students
Condensed by Native Village

New Mexico: Many students at the University of New Mexico come from small high schools without libraries. They are often overwhelmed by UNM's four libraries with electronic databases. Students need help with questions ranging from ‘How do I select a topic in Native American philosophy?’ to "How do I find books and journal articles about Native Americans in sports?"

Thanks to the Indigenous Nations Library, students receive the help they need. INLP instructors:

Work with students on a one-to-one basis and help them learn how to research print and electronic information;

Arrange lectures of interest to the Native American community;

area high school classes how to conduct research at a library.

INLP librarians say students don’t need to wait to get help. They can contact the librarians directly.

The Indigenous Nations Library program was established in 2004 with seed money from the state legislature.
